What is a Manglik

A person is said to be under the effects of the Manglik Dosha, that is also known as the Kuja Dosha because of the position of the planet mars in either the 1^st 4^th, 7^th, 8^th or 12^th house according to the norms of Indian Vedic Astrology.

There is also a debate among leading astrologers off which some believe that the presence of the planet mars in the 2^nd house also means the person is under the Manglik Dosha. For greater clarity on the effects of this condition one must first understand what each house represents.

1. The first house falls under Aries and represents the ascendants.
2. The 4^th house falls under Scorpio and represents nurture and the past
3. The 7^th house falls under Pisces as well as Capricorn and represents the marriage.
4. The 8^th house falls under Cancer and represents Longevity
5. The 12^th house falls under Sagittarius and represents expenditure.

By this you will understand that one must not simply assume the worst for a marriage if in case one of the partners falls under the Manglik Dosha. Some of its effects may not necessarily be as grave as death of a partner and on top that there are always solutions to negate the effects of this condition.

The effects of the condition are believed to be cancelled in the following situations:

1. When the planet mars is in its own house, that is Aries or Scorpio
2. If the Aquarius ascendant has the presence of mars in the 4^th house.
3. If mars is present in the 7^th house of Cancer and Capricorn

Additionally it is believed that recited the Gayatri Mantra for 108 times every day chanting the Hanuman Chalisa and fasting on Tuesdays help in the cancellation of its effects.
